Learning To Manipulate From Demonstration

We will develop a novel approach to Learning from Demonstration for teaching a robot complex, contact-rich manipulation tasks. This approach will enable the robots to physically operate complex locks and other mechanisms. The scientific challenge involves reliably operating such multi-degree-of-freedom mechanisms that require transitions between different multi-contact situations. Rather than programming these manipulation actions directly, we will have a human demonstrate motions to the robot.

Research Interests

Hi, my name is Xing Li. I am a PhD student at the Technische Universität Berlin under the supervision of Professor Oliver Brock. I am associated with the Excellence Research Cluster Science of Intelligence at Berlin.

My research interest lies in developing a cutting-edge system that empowers non-experts to effortlessly teach robots complex skills through demonstrations. I am differentiating myself from other research works in the field by focusing on endowing the robot with the ability to efficiently interact with the environment under the guidance of human demonstrations to generate additional data, leveraging the potential provided by the robots' embodiment. I believe that this guided interaction holds the key to bridging the gap between human and robot perception. I hope my research can contribute to the robotics community by making robots more accessible and a part of everyday household environments for everyone.
