Lunar morphology from new image inversion techniques

We analyze single-view images obtained by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter to derive Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) of high resolution, at the level of the image pixel scale. We use state-of-the-art mapping techniques, such as Convolutional Neural Networks. We have developed a software pipeline to produce DTMs covering large areas.

Topography and illumination of polar areas

In diesem Forschungsprojekt wollen wir die Beleuchtung und Temperatur der Mondoberfläche nahe der Mondpole erforschen, auch im Hinblick auf die Kartierung möglicher Wassereisvorkommen. Die Arbeiten basieren auf Daten des Laseraltimeters des Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO).

Lunar tidal deformation

Just like the Earth, the Moon -- vice versa -- is exposed to tidal forces from the Earth. Both, Moon and Earth are also exposed to Solar tides. In this project, we study models and measurements of the tidal deformation of the Moon to obtain information about the Moon’s interior structure, its origin and evolution.
