Simon is a post-doctoral researcher working on linear stability and resolvent analyses of turbulent boundary layers developing over airfoils. In particular, he uses these methods to obtain low-order, physics-based models describing the growth of large-scale coherent structures in turbulent flow, which are known to generate noise when they interact with the trailing edge of a wing. This is particularly relevant, for example, in the case of the swishing noise generated by wind turbines.
Simon completed his research master and PhD thesis within the aerospace and aeronautics department of the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics in 2021, where his main research topic was the onset of absolute and global instabilities in high-enthalpy round jets.
