Funktionen
Als Kustos der Mineralogischen Sammlungen der TU Berlin und Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter des Fachgebietes für Angewandte Geochemie liegt es in meiner Verantwortung die Mineralogischen Sammlungen zu verwalten, zu entwickeln und der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich zu machen. Weiterhin unterstütze und erweitere ich die Lehre und Forschung auf dem Gebiet der Mineralogie und Petrologie. Ein Leitansatz meiner Amtsausübung besteht in der gegenseitigen Interaktion zwischen den Mineralogischen Sammlungen und der Wissenschaft. Hierzu werden entsprechende Minerale und Gesteine der Sammlungen sowohl in der Lehre thematisiert als auch in die Forschung integriert-
Die Mineralogischen Sammlungen umfassen einen Objektbestand von über 200.000 Stück, von denen ausgewählte Kontingente in der Mineralogischen Schausammlung der TU (im 6. Stockwerk des BH Gebäudes) ausgestellt werden. Eine der Hauptthematiken der Sammlungen gründet sowohl auf der Klassifikation der Minerale als auch auf der Darstellung der Bedeutung der Mineralogie und Geologie (Angewandte Geowissenschaften) in unserer heutigen Gesellschaft. Ein spezifischer Fokus liegt dabei auf den Mineralexponaten aus Namibia und dem Hagendarf-Pegmatite in Deutschland.
Wissenschaftlicher Fokus der Mineralogischen Sammlungen
Die thematischen Schwerpunkte innerhalb der Mineralogischen Sammlungen zielen auf folgenden Hauptthemen ab:
- Historische Entwicklung der Mineralogischen Sammlungen der TU Berlin
- Klassifikationssystematik der Mineralien
- Mineral- und Gesteinsbestimmung
- Genese magmatischer und metamorpher Gesteine
- 2D und 3D Digitalisierung von Mineralien und Gesteinen
- Gemmologie/Edelsteinkunde
Forschungsschwerpunkte
Meine Forschungsinteressen bilden ein interdisziplinäres Forschungsfeld innerhalb der Mineralogie, Petrologie, Lagerstättenkunde und Geochemie ab. Der Forschungsfokus liegt dabei auf Karbonatiten und Karbonatit-assoziierten Minerallagerstätten mit folgenden Zielsetzungen:
- Syn- und Post-magmatische, mineralogische und mineralchemische Variationen innerhalb von Karbonatiten: Kontamination vs. Metamorphose (siehe Giebel et al. 2019b, Giebel et al. in prep.).
- Hydrothermale Entwicklung und Erz-bildende Prozesse in Karbonatiten und assoziierten Lagerstätten (siehe Giebel et al. 2017, Walter et al. 2020).
- Die Genese und Aufstiegsmechanismen karbonatitischer Magmen (siehe Giebel et al. 2019a, Walter et al. 2021).
- Die genetische Assoziation von Karbonatiten und Phoscoriten (siehe Giebel et al. 2019a).
