The participation in the BIEM doctoral program offers doctoral candidates a carefully curated selection of courses on specific scientific, methodological, and professional skills. This is accompanied by the committed support of senior supervisors supporting your research in a structured and systematic way. Expectations on participants

A successful participation in the BIEM doctoral studies program entails the following elements:

  • Earning 30 ECTS:
    Participants can select from our carefully curated course list on three areas:
    • conceptual competence (min. 12 ECTS in theory-based seminaries and colloquia)
    • scientific method competences (min. 6 ECTS in courses on research methods)
    • professional skills (min. 6 ECTS in modules focused in the acquisition of key skills)
  • Presentation of research findings
    Participants present their results for discussion (for example at scientific conferences).
  • Research reporting
    Participants are required to provide regular and structured reporting of their progress to both supervisors and the BIEM commission.

BIEM‘s offerings

The BIEM program supports participants with the following offers:

  • Diverse course selection
    Participants can choose from a wide course selection in three thematic areas .
  • Networking
    Participants can meet other researchers, discuss their research, and find potential synergies by participating in BIEM‘s scientific networking events.
  • Structural support
    BIEM starts with a supervision agreement and allows an ongoing progress control in the doctoral studies.

VHB-ProDok course offerings

VHB-ProDok is our support program for doctorates in business studies in German-speaking countries. It comprises up to 40 courses, which are conducted at regular intervals and thus facilitate long-term planning. The ProDok Faculty workgroup is responsible for the programme content in coordination with the VHB Board.
