Faculty Awards

At Faculty VII Economics and Management, awards are given for special commitment as well as outstanding achievements in research and teaching.
The honors take place at the end of the year. Calls for nominations are published on the welcome page at mid-year.

Award for special commitment

The award for special commitment will be given to members of the faculty (professors, research assistants, employees  in technology, service and administration and students), starting 2023. This award honors activities that advance the faculty and are not covered by regular employment at the faculty and do not exclusively serve the person's own advancement. 

The jury is composed of one member from each status group.

Prize Winners

2023

The Award for Special Commitment went to Judith Wamser for her innovations and her above-average commitment, including in the student council team, in academic self-administration and in the exercise of her office as Women's and Equal Opportunities Officer, Susanne Felgner for her extraordinary commitment to equality and the interests of young academics and Riccardo Petschke for founding the project workshop and the student initiative WannSea.

 

Award for outstanding research

The "Best Paper Award for Junior Scholars" is aimed at young scientists who are in the academic qualification phase at Faculty VII: Doctoral students, Post-Docs and junior professors. Criteria for awarding the prize include scientific excellence (evidenced, for example, by the international reputation of the journal), relevance to business and/or society, topicality of the subject, and number of citations. The prize will be awarded for the first time in 2023. 

The jury consists of the vice dean for research and one professor from each of the three institutes.

2023

The Best Paper Award for Junior Scholars went to Dr. Vincent Meisner for his paper "eport-Dependent Utility and Strategy-Proofness", published in Management Science, and Dr. Birgit Peña Häufler for her paper "Organizational antecedents to bootlegging and consequences for the newness of the innovation portfolio", published in the Journal of Product Innovation Management.

 

Teaching award

Starting in 2023, the teaching award will recognize modules and the teams behind them for particularly outstanding teaching quality. Criteria for this are, for example, the technical and didactic quality, innovative teaching methods, student-friendliness or inclusion of gender and diversity aspects. The selection is based on justified suggestions by students. The teaching evaluation results can be used by the jury as a supplement. Until 2018, the teaching prize was awarded for courses based on evaluations.

The jury consists of the Vice Dean of Academics and Teaching and four students from the student council.

The Teaching Award 2023 was given to Dr. Lubna Rashid for the module "Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Challenging Global Contexts".

2018

Teaching Award in the category "Large Courses": Prof. Dr. Ulrich Pidun for the integrated course "Competitive Strategies in Commodity Oligopolies".

Teaching Award in the category "Small Courses": Prof. Dr. Thorsten Beckers for the Integrated Course "Infrastructure Policy, Regulation and Management".

Teaching Award in the category "Tutorial": Cemal Tural for the tutorial "Statistics I for Economics".

2016

The teaching award in the "Large Courses" category was again awarded to Prof. Dr. Maik Lachmann, Head of the Department of Controlling and Accounting, for the lecture "International Financial Reporting in Accordance with IFRS".

The teaching award in the category "Small Courses" was awarded to Prof. Dr. Eric Schott, Honorary Professor at the Department of Technology and Innovation Management, for the seminar "Strategic Project Management".

The teaching award in the category "Tutorial" was awarded to Cemal Tural, tutor at the Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics, for the tutorial "Statistics II for Economics and Industrial Engineering".

2015

The teaching award in the category "Large Courses" was again awarded to Prof. Dr. Maik Lachmann, Head of the Department of Controlling and Accounting, for the exercise "Concepts and Instruments of Controlling".

The teaching award in the category "Small Courses" was awarded to Franziska Plitzko, research assistant at the Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics, for the exercise "Engineering Statistics".

The teaching award in the category "Tutorial" was given to Cemal Tural, tutor at the Department of Econometrics and Business Statistics, for the tutorial "Statistics II for Economics and Industrial Engineering".

2014

The teaching award in the category "Large Courses" was awarded to Prof. Dr. Maik Lachmann, Head of the Department of Controlling and Accounting, for the lecture "International Financial Reporting according to IFRS (RL I)".

The teaching award in the category "Small Courses" was awarded to Dr. Ulrich Pidun, Honorary Professor at the Department of Strategic Leadership and Global Management, for the lecture "Competitive Strategies in Commodity Oligopolies".
