Faculty V – Mechanical Engineering and Transport Systems

Completing a Habilitation at Faculty V – Mechanical Engineering and Transport Systems

To complete a Habilitation you must already have a doctorate and sufficient teaching experience.

You can submit your Habilitation dissertation as either a monograph or as a collection of publications (kumulative Habilitationschrift). If you are planning to do a Habilitation by publication, please refer to our faculty’s implementing regulations. Please also refer to our Habilitation Regulations. You can find the links on this page under “Regulations and rulings.”

You are required to submit a number of documents when registering for a Habilitation. Please ensure that you leave yourself plenty of time to do so and contact Julia Stützer at the Doctoral Office in advance.

Once all documents have been received, we will check to see if our faculty is responsible for your Habilitation procedure at TU Berlin. The procedure itself will then commence. This consists of a 45-minute demonstration lesson, the evaluation of your Habilitation dissertation and the Habilitation colloquium. The demonstration lesson and the colloquium are scheduled to coincide with meetings of the Faculty Board. Please be aware that the Habilitation procedure can take some time. If your Habilitation is successful, you can apply for the venia legendi.
