Chemical & Process Engineering

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in process engineering

Content

The course offers a practice-oriented introduction to numerical flow simulation. The course content consists of a theoretical and a practical part.

In the theoretical part, the fundamentals of CFD are taught, including:

  • Conservation equations, numerical methods (especially finite volume method), boundary conditions
  • Discretization schemes, solution algorithms, mesh generation
  • Turbulence modeling
  • Multiphase flows

In the practical part the simulation environment Simcenter STAR-CCM+ will be introduced. After a detailed introduction, an own project related to process engineering will be carried out, in which all steps of CFD will be worked on independently.
