S1 Bio-Laboratory

In our biolab we can work with organisms classified to the biosafety level 1 (german genetic engineering law, GenTG) and biosafety level 2 according to the ordinance on biological working agents (BioStoffV). Recent scientific focus is the cultivation of filamentary growing microorganisms and the increase of product yield during biogas production. The laboratory has the necessary equipment for sterile work: a microbiological safety cabinet, incubators, and an autoclave. Furthermore, reactors of various sizes (2-250 L) with measurement and control technology are available. A high-resolution digital light microscope allows images from 10x to 5000x magnification. Furthermore, a walk-in fume hood is available. Photometric measurements are used to detect product concentrations.
