"With Prof. Dr. Heinz Brauer, we have lost a highly esteemed colleague, a dedicated scientist and academic teacher - and above all a personality who acted as a bridge builder to the scientific world," said TU President Prof. Dr. Kurt Kutzler on the occasion of Professor Brauer's death on March 12, 2009. "The fact that we maintain such good relations today, especially with Polish universities, is due in large part to his commitment." From 1963 until his retirement in 1992 he represented the Fachgebiet Verfahrenstechnik at the TU Berlin and focused his research on biological wastewater treatment and air pollution control. For this he was honored with awards and medals by the Association of German Engineers and the Federal Ministry of Research and Technology, among others. His scientific work includes five textbooks, numerous book contributions and over 200 technical papers. As a co-founder of the Berlin Higher Education Laws, the city also loses an important political pioneer in him.
