Digital New Student Day on 19 October 2020

The main welcoming event for first-year students in winter semester 2020/21 as a live broadcast

New Student Day is a winter semester tradition. Due to the current situation, this event took place online on 19 October 2020.

Academic Advising and other services at TU Berlin welcomed new students with an attractive and varied program and offer an overview of what studying at TU Berlin is like. New students also used a live chat on YouTube to ask Academic Advising both general and more detailed questions and to interact with each other.

Students were introduced to campus life via (live) broadcasts from the canteen (Mensa), a subject library, a lecture hall and the Campus Center. Posts on Instagram accompanied the event throughout the day. A cooking video, a virtual tour and talks about campus life and online collaboration with tips on networking are available at TU Berlin's YouTube channel.

Individual degree programs will offered their own additional orientation events around 19 October 2020 as well. New Student Day gives students guidance on how the University and its degree programs work. The introductory programs of the individual degree programs, however, focus on all the important information you need to schedule courses, organize your studies, use the online portal and make contacts. Other TU Berlin institutions also offered introductory events, including the University Library Orientation Days from October 19 to November 7.

The hybrid semester: campus life and commitment

What are the New Student Day, the subject-specific introductory events and the mentoring offers all about? How can first-year students get to know fellow students during the digital semester? In an „Info Talk“, TU Berlin students and the Academic Advising Service describe their experiences during the digital summer semester and give an insight into campus life at TU Berlin.

The winter semester 2020/2021: How to work together

If libraries and study rooms will not be open throughout all of the semester, how can students still work together on joint projects and discuss their homework? Meeting on campus or digitally: which is harder or easier? What does it depend on? In the „Info Talk“, the Academic Advising Service together with the research assistant Robert Spang will highlight important aspects and give advice on how to succeed in working in a team – whether digitally or quite generally.

TU Berlin Campus Tour

What might a day on the campus at TU Berlin look like? What are the important places and where does campus life take place? We want to give newly enrolled students an insight into their university during a digital semester. For now as a film and later on the campus itself.

How does a flying visit to the Audimax, the largest lecture hall at TU Berlin, and the Atrium, probably the most beautiful site on campus, feel? TU Berlin will be coming to you in your study space at home at the start of the digital winter semester 2020/21 as Instagram filter: Under the keyword "TUgether At Home", four TU filters can be published in the story on Instagram.
