Application for “second degree advance quota" (1st degree semester/with NC)
Applicant group Z are applicants with
- a degree from a university in another member state of the EU (excluding Germany), Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway, and
- proof of German language skills at proficiency level DSH-2 or higher
- who are applying for the first degree semester of a restricted admission degree program (with NC)
The second degree advance quota is only part of the allocation of study places in the first degree semester of a restricted admission degree program (with NC). If you are applying for a free admission degree program (no NC) or a higher degree semester, you are in a different applicant group.
IMPORTANT:
- *Successfully completing a degree at a university in Germany automatically provides you with a German general university entrance qualification. In such cases, Undergraduate Admissions (national) at TU Berlin is responsible for your application.
- Your application will be assessed on the basis of the documents submitted by the application deadline. If you graduate after this deadline, your application will be regarded as an application for a first degree program. Applicant groups and responsibility for assessing applications cannot be changed during an open selection procedure (in other words after the application deadline). Some universities in Germany issue documents stating the degree program, the award achieved (e.g. Bachelor of Science), degree classification and date of graduation to confirm that the student has successfully completed the program and is only awaiting the final certificate. If you are able to obtain such a document by the end of the application period, you are required to apply for the pre-study quota for a second degree. Please note that different procedures apply depending on whether you possess a German or a non-German university degree.
Second degree advance quota
This advance quota only applies to the allocation of places for the first degree semester of a degree with restricted admission (with NC) and is limited to 3% of the number of places available. Selection within the advance quota is on the basis of an index number based upon the average grade achieved in the first degree and the justification for a second degree.
Special application documents
- Proof of passing your degree: transcripts and certificates with your grades and subjects, including an average grade calculated by the university issuing the documents. Should your transcript not include an average grade or should uni-assist not be able to calculate an average grade, a grade of 4.0 as used in the German system shall apply.
- "Begründung für das beantragte Zweitstudium“ form (Reasons for applying for a second undergraduate program). You must complete this form in full and sign, and submit online together with all other application documents to uni-assist. Please note: Statements of motivation or justifications for a second degree cannot be submitted instead of the official form. Failure to submit the form will result in the rejection of your application!
How to apply
Registration with hochschulstart.de?
Nationals of the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway:
- Before you begin the online application in the “My assist” online portal, please register with hochschulstart.de and create a user account. To do so, please click on “Registrierung".
- Once you have successfully registered, you will be issued an applicant ID (BID) and a BAN, which you will be required to enter in the “My assist” online portal.
- The BID and BAN are required as all study places for the first degree semester of restricted admission degree programs (with NC) are awarded through the dialogue-oriented service procedure (DoSV) of hochschulstart.de.
- Do not start any applications on hochschulstart.de!
Nationals of countries other than the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway and stateless persons:
- Registration with hochschulstart.de is not required.
- You, too, should not start any applications on hochschulstart.de!
Online application, number of desired degree programs, handling fees
- Log on to the “My assist” online portal on the uni-assist website.
- Select a TU Berlin undergraduate program (bachelor’s or state examination) and enter the first degree semester. If you are unable to select the first degree semester, then a first degree semester is not offered (some degree programs only begin in winter semester).
- Make sure to answer all the questions in the application carefully. CVs or certificates are not accepted in place of answers in the online application. Insufficient or incomplete information may lead to a rejection.
- You may only submit 1 application for the “second degree” advance quota:
- for 1 degree program with restricted admission for the first degree semester
- You can additionally apply for:
- 1 degree program with restricted admission (with NC) for a higher degree semester
- 1 degree program with free admission (no NC) for the first or higher degree semester
- The “second degree” advance quota does not apply to either of these latter two options. You are also not required to submit the form "Begründung für das beantragte Zweitstudium"(Reasons for applying for a second undergraduate program).
- If you wish to apply for a higher degree semester, please refer to the information for applicant group D.
- You must submit a separate online application for each degree program you wish to apply for.
- If you apply for more undergraduate programs than permitted, only those programs up to the permitted limit will be considered.
- uni-assist charges handling fees for the pre-check which must be paid before your application can be processed.
Application documents
You can submit your application online exclusively. This means: The following required application documents don’t have to be submitted as hard copies to uni-assist but only in electronic form as PDF files by the end of the respective application deadline:
- Proof of passing your first degree*: Transcripts and certificates including grades and subjects (also serves as proof of the university entrance qualification)
- Proof of German language skills*
- Original copy of the Begründung für das beantragte Zweitstudium form (Reasons for applying for a second undergraduate program)
- Passport (pages with personal data and signature)
*) Certificates must always be submitted in the language of the country of origin. Should this not be English or German, a German or English translation of the certificate must also be submitted.
Please note:
- In certain cases, original documents or officially certified copies have to be presented for enrolment directly to the TU Berlin. This applies specifically to reasoned suspected cases, to random samples as well as to APS certificates in general.
