You can apply for admission to the Preparatory School in preparation for the assessment test (Feststellungsprüfung) if you have successfully acquired an indirect international university entrance qualification. You also require German language skills at proficiency level B2 or higher.
Courses at the Preparatory School take two to four semesters and conclude with an assessment test for a specific focus course.
The passing of an assessment test means you have earned the direct right to study subjects at a higher education institution directly related to your focus course. However, this is not equivalent to a German Abitur or German higher education entrance qualification. An assessment test certificate is only valid in combination with your foreign educational certificates. If you want to apply to study at TU Berlin after successfully passing the assessment test, you must (once again) apply via uni-assist.
TU Berlin Preparatory School offers three types of subject-specific focus courses:
The choice of the focus course is dependent on your foreign educational qualifications, meaning your prior schooling and/or university education determines your subject qualification and, thus, the focus course. Please check the overview here to see which undergraduate program and focus course at the Preparatory School matches your subject qualification.
Pending your complete and timely application, the Preparatory School will invite you to take an admission test. Sample admission tests can be found on the Preparatory School website.
You will only receive two emails from TU Berlin to create your personal TUB account (tuPORT) after you have passed the admission test and if there are sufficient places in the Preparatory School. The following apps will then be available at your tuPORT:
It is in your interest to ensure that you have access to the contact addresses provided (personal/TU email) during the entire process. You are responsible for any errors or missed deadlines caused by incorrect information. Please also check your spam folder!
The assessment test can also be taken externally - in other words without attending the Preparatory School prior to taking the exam.
To take the test, you will have to provide proof of an indirect German university entrance qualification, as well as knowledge of German at level C1 or higher.
You should apply for the semester in which the assessment test is held.
Pending your complete and timely application, the Preparatory School will invite you to take an advisory session.
You have to pay a fee to take the external assessment test. Please contact the TU Berlin Preparatory School directly for further information.
If you have already taken an assessment test at a preparatory school in Germany and would now like to pursue a degree which is not compatible with the focus course you have already taken, you can apply for the supplementary examination of the T and W focus courses (without applying to the Preparatory School).
Along with the indirect university entrance qualification for the new focus course, the German section of the assessment examination which you have already passed (minimum grade 4) is accepted as proof of language level.
You should apply for the semester during which the assessment examination is held.
Pending your complete and timely application, the Preparatory School will invite you to take an advisory session.
You have to pay a fee to take the supplementary examination. Please contact the TU Berlin Preparatory School directly for further information.
You are already attending another Preparatory School in Germany and would like to change to the Preparatory School at the TU Berlin?
A change of Studienkolleg is only possible if the transferring (previous) Studienkolleg AND the Studienkolleg of the TU Berlin expressly agree to this change.
Proof of both approvals must be submitted to uni-assist by the end of the application deadline.
Nationals of the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway applying for a restricted admission degree program (with NC) must register with hochschulstart.de:
You can submit your application online exclusively. This means: The following required application documents don’t have to be submitted as hard copies to uni-assist but only in electronic form as PDF files by the end of the respective application deadline:
*) Certificates must always be submitted in the language of the country of origin. Should this not be English or German, a German or English translation of the certificate must also be submitted.
