Change of university with a professional qualification and at least one year´s completed studies at a university in another federal state or lateral entry to a higher degree semester of another degree program

Students who were admitted to a degree program in another federal state on the basis of a professional qualification and who have completed at least one year of that program may, pursuant to Section 11(4) of the Berlin State Higher Education Act (BerlHG), continue their studies in a similar degree program at TU Berlin, once admitted to the degree program.
Competing one year of a degree program means that you successfully completed all scheduled examinations at your previous university.
A change of university is possible for a student with a professional qualification who has successfully completed at least one year of a university degree in another federal state, once the responsible TU Berlin examination board is satisfied that the student qualifies for the next degree semester (i.e. at least the 3rd degree semester).

It is in principle possible to switch by lateral entry to a degree program different to the one you have been studying in. Your entitlement to study at university pursuant to Section 11 BerlHG will however need to be checked again. Which requirements do I need to fulfill?

You may, in accordance with Section 11(4) of the Berlin State Higher Education Act (BerlHG), continue your studies in a similar degree program at TU Berlin if you

1. were admitted to your previous university on the basis of a professional qualification and

2. have successfully completed at least one year of a degree program in another federal state.

How does the application process work?

1. Please submit the documents listed below to TU Berlin in the appropriate form before the application deadline. Please note: Submission is only possible in the way, described on the form.

2. We will then check your application documents. If your application has been submitted on time and in the correct form and all requirements are fulfilled, your application will enter the admissions procedure.

3. You will receive a notification from us, and if accepted we will send you details concerning enrollment.

Which documents do I need to submit?

  • Application for admission to higher degree semester (Please note: Only one application for admission is possible!)
  • Certificate of enrollment from your previous university with details of the degree program, the type of degree and the number of semesters studied in the degree program
  • Confirmation from your previous university that your admission was on the basis of a professional qualification.
