Important Information for All Direct Applicants for Winter Semester 2021/22

Due to the restrictions implemented on 30 April 2021 following the IT attack, the Office of Student Affairs is unable to access or process applications submitted via the portal. Any applications submitted through the portal before the cyberattack will not be considered. This page provides an overview of all important information about applications for winter semester 2021/22.

Due to the IT attack, master’s applicants who earned or will earn their first university degree (generally a bachelor’s) at a German university and are applying with a ECTS certificate must submit their application for winter semester 2021/22 to uni-assist e.V. TU Berlin will assume the costs for the direct application.

Please note that you may only submit one application for admission to master’s studies per semester. This also applies if your first application is rejected. A second application will not be considered.

You must submit all required documents to uni-assist e.V. on time. Please refer to the checklist below to see which documents are required.

Please note: Student Info Services is able to provide general advising about applying and enrolling. However, it cannot review your application documents. If you are uncertain which degree program best fits you and your interests or have general questions about studying, please contact the Academic Advising Service.

Applications submitted via TU portal: renewed application required

If you already submitted your application via the TU portal in April, please pay close attention the following information:

Please re-submit your application via uni-assist e.V., as we are unable to access any applications submitted in April through the upload form. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Please note that the application deadlines for all restricted admission master’s programs have been extended until 15 June 2021.

Uni-assist will conduct a pre-check of your documents on the basis of TU Berlin’s requirements. If your application is complete, it will be forwarded to TU Berlin for consideration. Uni-assist will inform you of your application status via email.

It generally takes about 6 weeks for uni-assist to process applications.

Joint master’s degrees & Master of Education programs – multiple enrollment:

If you are enrolled as a degree-seeking student at another Berlin university (Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Berlin University of the Arts) for a joint master’s degree program or Master of Education program, please read the information about multiple enrollment at TU Berlin.

Applying

Step 1

Create an account with uni-assist or log in if you already have an account. Please fill in or update your personal information and educational history.

my.uni-assist.de

Step 2

Please select your desired master’s degree program from the list of study programs offered in the respective semester. You can use the search function or restrict the search criteria to show only study programs currently offered at TU Berlin (semester, university, type of degree via Advanced search).

Please select the degree semester you want to apply for (usually the 1st semester which is the starting semester of your studies).

As you can apply for only one master’s degree program per semester, please decide in advance which program is suitable for you and check to see if you fulfill the specific admission requirements. Our list of degree programs contains detailed information about each program.

Step 3

Complete the application form. Make sure that your answers are correct and truthful.

You can view your application form via “My Applications” > “My Application Overview” in your personal My assist account.

Step 4

Upload your documents (see the checklist below). Please clearly name each document in either German or English.

You can upload and view uploaded documents (see checklist below) via “My Applications” > “My Documents.“

  • Please only upload PDF files (max. 10 MB in size for each document)
  • Sort and scan your documents in the correct order by page number (e.g. transcript)
  • Upload different documents in separate files (e.g. high school diploma and copy of passport/ID)
  • Please upload each document only once and choose a suitable file name (e.g. bachelor’s degree certificate)

Attention: Uploaded documents cannot be deleted afterwards.

If you need to scan documents but do not have a scanner, you can use a free scanning app on your smartphone.

TU Berlin reserves the right to request officially certified copies at the time of enrollment on a random basis or in justified suspected cases.

Please do not send your documents as hard copies to uni-assist or TU Berlin in addition to uploading.

Please note:

Pay attention to the application deadlines (cut-off periods).

Documents that are submitted after the application deadline will not be considered.

Please only send your application once your documents are complete.

After you apply:

  • Uni-assist will pre-review your application on the basis of TU Berlin’s requirements.
  • If your application fulfills the criteria, it will be forwarded to TU Berlin as soon as possible for further processing.
  • If your application is incomplete, you will be informed by uni-assist. If the application deadline has not yet passed, you can complete your application and upload any missing documents by the deadline.
  • TU Berlin will then review your application to confirm that it fulfills the formal requirements.
  • The examination board of the faculty will then verify your application to see if you meet the specific admission requirements of the degree program.
  • A selection procedure usually follows for master’s degree programs with restricted admission.
  • At the end of the procedure, you will receive an acceptance or rejection letter by email or post.

Information for internal applicants with a bachelor’s degree from TU Berlin

This information only applies to applicants with a bachelor's degree from TU Berlin who are applying for a restricted admission German or English-language master's program.

As the University is currently unable to issue an overview of academic performance for TU applicants, please pay attention to the following information:

Applicant group 1

You are applying to a master’s program which is related to the bachelor’s program you are completing. Please pay attention to the application and admission requirements of your desired master’s program.

Generally in these cases we do not need to review whether the content of your previous bachelor’s degree is related to your intended master’s degree. For this reason, you can submit the document “No documents issued by TU Berlin“ in place of the overview of academic performance.

Example: You are a student completing a bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and are applying for a master’s in Mechanical Engineering. You fulfill the subject-specific admission requirements. We are able to access your final grade for the selection procedure and will review whether you have earned the necessary credit points to be considered (generally a shortfall of more than 30 credit points per semester is not possible).  If you have a current or sufficient printout from your QISPOS account, you are welcome to submit this too.

Applicant group 2

You are applying for a master’s without a related bachelor’s degree. Please pay close attention to the application and admission regulations of your desired master’s program.

This especially applies to applicants applying for a master’s which requires additional modules in another degree program that build on a TU Berlin bachelor’s program. Without proof of academic performance (including the additional modules), the examination board is unable to review your application and confirm that you meet the subject-specific requirements and must reject it.

If you have a QISPOS printout (even if it is not current) confirming you took the necessary additional modules, you can submit this together with the document “No documents issued by TU Berlin.“ We will also accept individual proof of other passed exams issued by examiners. In this case, please also include the relevant module catalog. Content which is part of your degree program but which you have not yet completed is a determining factor when reviewing whether you fulfill the subject-specific admission requirements.

If you do not have proof that you have completed the necessary requirements, contact your exam team. Please understand that we will only be able to issue a certificate of performance once we can access our systems again. You can find further information about when this will be possible in the FAQs about examinations. Even though we can only consider academic performance which has been recorded, you can submit individual proof from examiners as described above.

If you are applying to TU Berlin, you can submit the certificate of performance via uni-assist e.V. by 15 July 2021. All other required documents must be submitted by the deadline.

The deadline of 15 July 2021 only applies to TU applicants applying to restricted-admission master’s programs in English and German with a deadline of 15 June 2021.

Applications from TU applicants will only be considered if they are missing no more than 30 credit points. Only those credit points recorded in QISPOS will be considered.

If you are applying to a free admission master’s program, please wait to submit your application to uni-assist e.V. until you have received proof of performance from your relevant exam team. Your application must be submitted in full by 31 August 2021. You can find further information about when it will be possible to issue certificates of performance again and how to request one in the FAQs about examinations. If you submit your application without this certificate, uni-assist e.V. may reject your application on the grounds that it does not fulfill the formal application requirements.

Applicants who require proof of performance to apply to another university should contact the relevant Berlin or Brandenburg university to request a special arrangement for TU Berlin applicants. Once we are able to access our systems again, you can contact your exam team to request the certificate.

In case you have to submit work samples (e.g. for the Master’s degree program in Architecture), please submit it also in the form of a PDF file together with your application documents.

Specific proofs and certificates might be requested as original documents or in the form of officially certified copies according to the admissions regulations (“Zugangs- und Zulassungsordnung (ZZO)”), s. These documents are to be submitted only electronically as a PDF file.
