Environmental Microbiology

Research

Central research topics of the chair include the investigation and description of the complexity and diversity of natural and technical systems used mixed populations of microorganisms. Biofilms are of particular interest in both microbial ecology and biotechnology. In addition, the problem of apparently inactive cells (VBNC, non-growing cells) in natural populations, but also in membrane bioreactors, is the subject of intensive investigations.

Projects

Our research projects focus on various topics, including biofilms, iron bacteria, phages and pollutant degradation
