My Account / Requesting Items

My account

Why should I log in?

When you log into the Primo Knowledge Portal, you are able to

  • See if an item can be borrowed
  • Request items
  • Manage your loans, orders, fees, and personal settings
  • Save your searches and favorite items

How do I log in?

1. TU students log in with their TU account to access their library account.

2. Non-TU students log in with their 12-digit library card number (staff should use the number on their University ID) and their password.

  • You assign yourself the password for your library account at this point:

Knowledge Portal Primo → Login for TU staff & all other users → Forgot your password or first login? → Follow instructions

Forgot your password?

If you are a student and have forgotten your password, please contact Campus Management. They will help you reset your password.

All other users should go to the Primo Knowledge Portal sign in page and click the link “Forgot your password?”
If you have any problems you please contact the Circulation Department at leihstelle(at)ub.tu-berlin.de.

How can I extend the loan period?

You can extend your loan periods as often as you like until the maximum loan period is reached. Sign in at Knowledge Portal Primo via the link My Library Account or write an email to: leihstelle(at)ub.tu-berlin.de

You will not be able to renew items in case

  • items have been reserved by another user.
  • the maximum loan period has been reached. For a new loan, the item must be presented at the Circulation Desk
  • your library card has expired
  • items which have been ordered via interlibrary loan.
  • your library account has been blocked.

Personal information

Changing your PIN (self-issue machines)

You require a PIN to sign into the self-issue machines. The default PIN is your zip code.

However you are free to choose another number.

Changing your password (library account)

For security reasons, we recommend changing your password after logging in for the first time. Your password must be at least eight characters and cannot contain your library card number or a frequently used password. TU students cannot change their password here because it is the same as for their TUB account.

Email address

You will receive notifications, reminders about items that are due, as well as the first two overdue notices via email.

Please keep track of the due dates for your borrowed items. If you have not received a reminder, this does not entitle you to a waiver of any overdue fees.

Changing your mailing address and email address:TU students should contact the University’s Campus Center. All other users should submit an email to the Central Library’s Circulation Department: leihstelle(at)ub.tu-berlin.de.

Requesting Items

Which items do I have to request?

Log in with your user ID and password to find out whether an item can be borrowed.

The following items must be requested:

  • Materials located in the closed stacks or a special location
  • Items on loan (This will be indicated in the Status column with “On loan until” and the item’s due date.)

Items in the Open Access Area are freely accessible.

It is not possible to request items with the status “not loanable."

How can I request and reserve items?

Sign in with your user ID and password.

Items which are located in closed stacks or out on loan will have a green button labeled “Request” in the item details. Click the button. A new window will open with information about the item. If it is available in several locations, you have the option to select your preferred location. To complete your order, please click “Request” again.

When and where can I collect requested items?

Once the requested item is available, you will receive an email notifying you where to collect the item as well as how long it is on hold for you. This information is also in your library account under “My Requests.”

Further information about collecting items

Sometimes the loan period in the status column “On loan until” is unusually long. This can be for a number of reasons:

  • It is a long-term loan, such as for TU professors. In this case, you have the option of arranging an appointment to view the item.
  • The item is currently being processed internally by the University Library.

If you have any questions, please contact the Information Desk.
