Instructions for Interlibrary Loan Requests (Books)

(Monographs, dissertations, conference proceedings, parts of multi-volume works, or partial copies of such materials)

1.  Search the catalogues of TU and UdK

Please search for the desired title in the catalogue of TU Berlin and the catalogue of UdK Berlin. You can only request items via interlibrary loan that are not listed in our catalogue.

If you cannot find the item you are looking for, please go to the link "Continue searching in the region or use interlibrary loan", which you will find under the heading“You did not find what you were looking for?” at the end of your list of results.

2.  Search the KOBV Portal

You will now be taken to the KOBV Portal, a union catalog that allows you to search a large number of library catalogs simultaneously.

Now search for the desired item. The search results for libraries in Berlin and Brandenburg are displayed on the page. For more detailed information about the individual titles, click “Details”.

a. If the desired item is on the list, you should now check its availability. To do this, click “Availability” or the name of the owning library on the right. If you decide to request an item, click “Inter-library loan”.
b. If the desired item is not on the list, it is not available within the KOBV. In this case, you need to place a nationwide request.

To do this, click on tab "German National Index". The search results of all German libraries are then displayed. For more detailed information about the titles, click "Details". To check a title’s availability click on the corresponding link in the right column. If you decide to request an item, click “Interlibrary loan”.

Important: You should always check an item’s availability. This is important because not every title is available for interlibrary loan (reference books, loose-leaf publications, diploma theses, old and valuable works, new releases from the current year, e-books, CDs, and DVDs are generally not for loan).

3. Place a request

Please enter your library card number and your PIN and choose Berlin TU/UdK as your home library. TU students log in using their TUB-Account data. Then confirm with “Login”.

Please consider the following points:

  • You can only order one item per request. For multi-volume works you need to place a request for every single volume.
  • You only need to fill out the order form “Angaben zum Aufsatz” in the section “Bestellform” if you are requesting copies (e.g. of a single chapter). To do so, choose “Kopienbestellung eines Aufsatzes”.
  • Please confirm that your order is for non-commercial purposes.
  • Interlibrary loan fees  are 1.50 EUR for all others except students (until 31 March 2023) and staff of TU and UdK, who can place requests for free.

There may be additional costs (e.g. due to a high number of copies or international shipping costs). In the section “Kostenübernahme”, you can set a limit on how much you are willing to pay for this request.

  • If you require a certain edition and want to exclude all other editions, please choose “Andere Auflage ausgeschlossen“.

Click “Weiter” and then “Bestellen” to place your request.

4. Receive your request

Your request is now visible in your library account. Delivery usually takes 1-2 weeks.

As soon as the item has arrived, you will receive a notification by email (copies are mailed directly to the address listed in your library account). The loan period is set by the lending library and is usually 30 days. It starts the day the item arrives at our library and not on the day the item is picked up. Exceeding the loan period will result in an overdue fee. Items you have requested via interlibrary loan are not available for renewal – so using the function ‚Renew All‘ in your library account will not include interlibrary loans.
