Publisher Agreements and Memberships

The University Library supports Open Access in a number of areas: Direct financial support is provided for various projects and initiatives that promote Open Access. Publication fees for individual Open Access publications can be financed via the central Publication Fund. TU Berlin has arranged special Open Access terms with certain publishers, to facilitate Open Access publishing. Some of these imply discounts.

Strategic Support for Open Access

The following projects and initiatives are supported by the University Library:

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB)
Sponsoring Consortium for Open Access Publishing in Particle Physics (SCOAP3)
DSpace Konsortium Deutschland
Open Library of Humanities (OLH)
Open Book Publishers (OBP)

In addition, the University Library participates in various crowdfunding projects to finance open access publications. Open Access for books in particular is often realized through the collaborative funding of many libraries.

Publisher Agreements

The TU has arranged special open access terms with certain publishers, some of these imply discounts. For some publishers a central invoicing to the UB is planned - if TU members are responsible for financing as "corresponding author" and are members of the TU Berlin according to § 43 Berlin Higher Education Act, (see also affiliation guideline of the TU Berlin). Please note the special instructions for the submission process for these publishers.

Copernicus

Copernicus Publications is an Open Access publisher with 35 journals, mainly focussing on science. If Members of TU Berlin are "corresponding authors" they can have the open access fee centrally financed by the library. Please provide your official TU mail address when submitting your article.

DeGruyter

Members of TU Berlin receive a 20 % discount on publication fees with DeGruyter. If funding conditions for journals are met the invoicing is done centrally by the university library. Please provide your official TU mail address when submitting your publication.

Frontiers

Publication fees for articles in Frontiers journals are financed centrally by the University Library for members of the TU, provided that they are "corresponding author". Please submit your article from an IP address on the TU campus and provide your official TU mail address.

Lyell Collection (Geological Society of London)

Members of TU Berlin receive a 25% discount on publication fees for articles in journals of the Lyell Collection.

Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI)

For members of TU Berlin, publication fees for articles in journals of MDPI are covered automatically by the university library if all funding criteria are met. A 10% discount on publication fees is granted for articles by members of the TU. Please submit your article from an IP address on the TU campus.

Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC)

Costs for articles in genuine Open Access journals can be financed by the Publication Fund. In addition to this the TU Berlin has concluded a Read & Publish transformation agreement since 2019 with the publisher RSC. This agreement combines access to all RSC journals with the option to publish articles open access in all subscription-based journals at no additional cost, provided the member of the TU is a "corresponding author". Please provide your official TU mail address when submitting your article.

Science Advances

TU members receive a 15% discount on publication fees for AAAS Gold Open Access Journal Science Advances.

SpringerNature

For the term 2020–2022 the German DEAL contract was concluded with SpringerNature. This agreement combines reading access with the option to publish articles open access. The open access publishing option applies to all Springer journals and open access journals by Nature.

For the term 2019–2021 the first DEAL contract was concluded with Wiley. This agreement combines access to all Wiley journals with the option to publish articles open access in all Wiley journals at no additional cost.
