Publisher Agreements and Memberships

New from January 2023

The University Library supports Open Access in a number of areas: Direct financial support is provided for various projects and initiatives that promote Open Access. Publication fees for individual Open Access publications can be financed via the central Publication Fund. TU Berlin has arranged special Open Access terms with certain publishers, to facilitate Open Access publishing. Some of these imply discounts.

In addition, the University Library participates in various crowdfunding projects to finance open access publications. Open Access for books in particular is often realized through the collaborative funding of many libraries.

Publisher Agreements

TU Berlin has arranged special open access terms with certain publishers, some of these imply discounts. For some publishers a central invoicing to the University Library is planned - if TU members are responsible for financing as "corresponding author" and are members of TU Berlin according to § 43 Berlin Higher Education Act, (see also affiliation guideline of TU Berlin). Please note the special instructions for the submission process for these publishers.

Copernicus

Copernicus Publications is an Open Access publisher with 35 journals, mainly focussing on science. If members of TU Berlin are "corresponding authors" they can have the open access fee centrally financed by the University Library. Please provide your official TU mail address when submitting your article.

Frontiers

Publication fees for articles in Frontiers journals can be centrally funded for members of TU Berlin, provided that they are "corresponding author". Please submit your article from an IP address on TU campus and provide your official TU mail address.

!!! New beginning 01.01.2023!!! The contractual agreement with Frontiers ends 31.12.2022. Open Access publication costs can continue to be financed by TU Berlin’s publication fund if all funding criteria are met. Once your article has been accepted for publication, you can submit an application for funding.

Lyell Collection (Geological Society of London)

Members of TU Berlin receive a 25% discount on publication fees for articles in journals of the Lyell Collection.

Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI)

For members of TU Berlin, publication fees for articles in journals of MDPI can be centrally funded if all funding criteria are met. A 10% discount on publication fees is granted for articles by members of TU Berlin.

!!! New beginning 01.01.2023!!! Please submit your article from an IP address on TU campus. Once your article has been accepted for publication, you can submit an application for funding.

Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC)

Costs for articles in genuine Open Access journals can be financed by the Publication Fund as long as the funding conditions are met. You can submit an application for funding of publication costs once your article has been accepted by the publisher.
In addition to this, TU Berlin concluded a Read & Publish transformation agreement with RSC since 2019. This agreement combines access to all RSC journals with the option to publish articles open access in all subscription-based journals at no additional cost, provided the member of TU Berlin is a "corresponding author."  Please provide your official TU Berlin email address when submitting your article.

Science Advances

Members of TU Berlin receive a 15% discount on publication fees for AAAS Gold Open Access Journal Science Advances.

SpringerNature

For the term 2020–2022 the German DEAL contract was concluded with SpringerNature. The agreement was extended, the same conditions apply for authors until 31.12.2023. This agreement combines reading access with the option to publish articles open access at no additional costs, provided that the TU member is the "corresponding author". The open access publishing option applies to all Springer journals and open access journals by Nature.

DEAL Operations - Open Access with DEAL

Wiley

For the term 2019–2021 the first DEAL contract was concluded with Wiley. The agreement was extended, the same conditions apply for authors until 31.12.2023. This agreement combines access to all Wiley journals with the option to publish articles open access in all Wiley journals at no additional cost provided that the TU member is the "corresponding author".
