Publishing a Habilitation Thesis

If the habilitation regulations of your faculty demand submitting your habilitation thesis to the University Library, please follow the list below.


1. Text preparation

Prepare the text of your habilitation for publishing.

In case of a thesis by publication, please follow the instructions for cumulative theses:

In addition, please decide if the research data generated in the course of the habilitation (e.g. measurement and survey data, laboratory values, audiovisual information, texts, software or simulations) should be archived and made reusable and citable by the TU Berlin.

2. Title page

Please insert a title page before your text as is required by TU Berlin regulations.

Before you print the paper, please send us your title page by email for checking.

3. Print copy

Prepare one printed copy*. The allowed formats are DIN A4, DIN A5 and intermediate formats. Pages should be printed on both sides if possible. Please use white, age-resistant paper. Copies must be bound in a permanent way, ring, spiral or clamp binding is not permitted.

*Various books-on-demand service providers will support you in the production of the copies on request and, if required, also offer the possibility of distributing your publication with an ISBN number and under a Creative Commons license.

4. Abstract and table of contents

Please submit the following documents for cataloging via e-mail:

  • the table of contents in a PDF file,
  • the German and English abstract together in one PDF file. Please use "Zusammenfassung" as the heading for the German text and "Abstract" for the English text. Both abstracts together should not exceed one page.

The text must be fully copyable in both files.

5. Submission of print copy

Please submit the printed copy of your habilitation thesis to the circulation desk of the university library (central library, ground floor). You may authorize another person to submit the documents or use postal services.

6. Acknowledgement of receipt

The Dissertation Office checks the submitted documents for compliance with the requirements, and issues the acknowledgement of receipt for submission to your faculty.
