Open Access: Shaping Visions – 2023 in Berlin

On the basis of their strong longstanding cooperation, the Berlin universities successfully applied to once again hold the Open Access Days conference in the capital city. The Open Access Days are the central annual conference on Open Access in the German-speaking region. Freie Universität Berlin will once again host the conference, to take place from 27 to 29 September 2023. A local committee comprised of 12 Berlin institutions of higher education will organize the conference in collaboration with the central program committee.

The university libraries of Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin) and the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) are also involved in the preparations. Both libraries have been pioneers in the field of openness for many years. As strong partners for free access to information, they play a crucial role in shaping and implementing the State of Berlin’s Open Access Strategy established in 2015. Through their work in regional and (inter)national networks, the libraries play a key role in promoting Open Access.

TU Berlin and UdK Berlin libraries were named Library of the Year 2022 in recognition of their work, including in the areas of digital services and openness.
