The Green Consumption Assistant (GCA) project supports consumers during online shopping in finding resource-saving products and alternatives to new purchases quickly and easily. The AI-supported assistance system is being researched and developed by the project network of the Technical University of Berlin, the Berlin University of Applied Sciences and the green search engine Ecosia and is being funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment as a lighthouse project for artificial intelligence in use for ecological challenges.
The Digitalization for Sustainability - Science in Dialogue (D4S) project aims to develop a basis for digitalisation that promotes environmental and social sustainability. With the help of a group of 15 renowned European scientists and practitioners from various disciplines, the science-policy discourse is to be promoted in three dimensions. The project is supported by Robert Bosch Stiftung and runs from September 2020 to August 2022.
Bits & Bäume 2022 covers topics at the intersection between the areas of sustainability and digitalisation. They range from interconnected mobility, the resource and energy consumption of digital devices, data sufficiency and cooperative platform economies to issues around smart energy grids and the tendency towards monopolisation in the digital economy.
The research group "Digitisation and Socio-Ecological Transformation" studies the opportunities and risks of digitisation for a reduction of energy and resource consumption and develops approaches for the political and social design of digitisation that is as sustainable as possible. Six scientific qualification theses are achievable within the framework of the research group. The group is a cooperative project of the department of Tilman Santarius (head) at the TU Berlin and the Einstein Centre Digital Future, the Centre for Technology and Society at the TU Berlin and the Institute for Ecological Economy Research (IÖW). The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
The research project "AI Empowered Sustainable Urban Mobility Platform - AISUM" has been finished since October 2020. It dealt with the development of a mobility platform for smart and environmentally friendly urban transport in Berlin.
