Elections for the office of president at TU Berlin Uni-Truel on 29 November 2021 / Invitation to the livestream

Important elections will be taking place at TU Berlin in winter semester 2021/2022. The elections for the members of the committees responsible for academic self-governance will be held in December with the elections for the president and the vice presidents to follow at the start of the new year. The elections are taking place at a time where the impacts of the pandemic, a lack of trained staff, and political decisions are placing strong demands on TU Berlin and other universities.    

The Uni-Truel is a chance to meet the three candidates for the office of president at TU Berlin and to ask them about their concepts and ideas for the university of the future.

When is the Uni-Truel and how can I follow it?

The Uni-Truel will be moderated by Dr. Angela Borgwardt and Elias Grünewald.

The event will be in German with German sign language.

The livestream is open to everyone.

Who is standing for election?

The following three candidates have been nominated for the office of president:

  • Professor Dr. Geraldine Rauch, director of the Institute of Biometry and Clinical Epidemiology at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin
  • Professor Dr. Christian Thomsen, president of TU Berlin
  • Professor Dr. Ulrike Woggon, managing director of the Institute of Optics and Atomic Physics at TU Berlin

Who is organizing the event?

The event came about at the wish of the Academic Senate and is organized by the Office of Communication, Events and Alumni. Due to the current number of coronavirus infections, the Uni-Truel is offered as a livestream event. 

What is the procedure for electing the president of TU Berlin?

The call for the office of president was published in summer 2021. Three candidates were nominated by the Academic Senate and the Board of Trustees. These candidates then proposed or had the right to propose candidates for the office of the vice presidents, who were then in turn nominated by the Academic Senate and the Board of Trustees.

The elections will take place in January and February 2022. The election body is the Extended Academic Senate. New elections for the Academic Senate will take place in early December 2021. All members of the University may vote in the elections for the Academic Senate.
