Teaching Philosophy, Teaching Experience, Teaching Practice

Why a teaching portfolio is an essential component of an application for a professorship

In addition to their research work, a candidate’s teaching skills and experience play an increasingly important role in appointment procedures. As such, it is important to present a teaching portfolio when applying for a professorship at Technische Universität Berlin. A teaching portfolio provides information about a candidate’s ability as a teacher as well as about their personality as a teacher and the development of their teaching goals. It should include statements about the candidate’s teaching philosophy, in other words their approaches to teaching, as well as their understanding of what teaching is, their teaching practice, teaching methods and examination formats, and proof of courses taught.
