Ministers Call for Reputation Portability

Germany's Federal Ministers of Justice and Labor, respectively, have taken a stance to strengthen the rights of self‑employed complementors vis-à-vis online platform operators. In a guest contribution to Wirtschaftswoche, they call for more protective rights and fair working conditions as well as transparency and fairness of online rating systems. Most importantly, they support the concept of reputation portability, that is, the ability to port ratings from one platform to another to strengthen competition between platforms and individuals' freedom of choice – a subject that our research group has conducted extensive work on in the past.
