The continuing education master’s program Science Management/Science Marketing teaches you the skills of science management, marketing, and communication. Science Management links the principles of management based on the latest academic findings with practical examples from the area of science. Science Marketing reflects the complex competitive situations which increasingly require a business-based approach. The formal requirements for the master’s program are a first university degree qualifying applicants to work in a profession as well as a minimum of one year’s subsequent experience in one or more professional fields, preferably in the areas of science communication, marketing, or management.
Applicants must provide proof of 210 credit points from their previous university program, as a total of 300 credit points are required to be awarded the master's degree. A system of recognition is used in cases where a student’s first degree was awarded less than 210 credit points.
The program is taught in German. Applicants are required to submit proof of German skills when applying, other than those who have German citizenship, who took the German Abitur, or whose first degree program was taught in German. The obligation to provide proof of German language skills is based on the requirements of TU Berlin.
The master's program in Science Management/Science Marketing is a distance learning course to be completed part-time and independent of learning time in four semesters, and comprises eight modules as well as a master's thesis. The syllabus follows a blended learning format, with parts of the program completed in class and others online. There are eight periods of classroom attendance spread over two years, generally taking place on Wednesdays and Saturdays. These periods are designed to achieve an intensive introduction to the syllabus. Each classroom attendance period is followed by a six-week period of working online.

The master’s program qualifies you for a career in science management, science marketing, and science communication. Leadership in science, both in theory and practice, plays an important role in the program. You will acquire competences in the areas of leadership and communication as well as skills to foster your own personal development. The program also focuses on internationalization and digitalization. Students acquire technical knowledge of the structure of the science system, financing and controlling, fundraising, as well as project funding and management. These areas are then focused on in greater depth in the Science Management or Science Management specializations. Science Management focuses on the areas of strategy and change management, university law and administration, personnel, and organization. Science Marketing provides deeper knowledge of communication management, marketing and public affairs. As part of your individual specialization, you will also acquire knowledge of research and innovation management, evaluation and quality management, scientific communication, or scientific events/third mission.
As a graduate of the master’s program, you are equipped to undertake specialist work in the area of science management/science marketing.
