In the master’s degree program Educational Sciences - Consulting and Organizational Development, you study diverse issues in empirical educational research that affect individual and organizational learning and educational processes. The program also includes the planning, management, and evaluation of different public and private educational organizations.
The program is characterized by its close coupling of theoretical analysis and both empirical research activities as well as practical activities that explore career fields in the discipline. Students learn the pedagogical, psychological, and social science foundations of contemporary education management. Further, they learn methodological basic principles of empirical educational research as well as methodological knowledge and skills that enable them to apply evaluation and quality assurance measures in educational work.
The curriculum enables students to independently design and implement research and evaluation projects. You are able to create your own individual profile by choosing between the fields of action school and professional education. You can also choose between the organizational principles Intercultural Educational Planning and Development and Gender and Organization.

The formal admission requirement for the Educational Science - Consulting and Organizational Development master’s study program is a first university degree in psychology, sociology, educational science, cultural studies, or social sciences, or a similar discipline or an equivalent degree with an option to complete teacher training. You must also be able to submit proof of having completed study units encompassing 10 credit points in the subject of empirical social research.
The Educational Sciences - Consulting and Organizational Development master’s program is taught in German. If you are applying with a foreign school-leaving certificate, you must provide proof of German skills at a specific level. This is a prerequisite for admission. As much of the technical literature as well as several courses are in English, you must be able to submit proof of English skills at B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The master’s program consists of compulsory, compulsory elective, and elective components. The compulsory component is made up of seven modules to be completed during the first two semesters. During the compulsory elective component later in your studies, you can choose between the two fields of action “School” and “Professional Education” as well as the organizational principles “Intercultural Educational Planning and Development” and “Gender and Organization”. Students complete the study program by writing a master’s thesis.

An internship is a mandatory component of the program. It must last at least eight weeks.
The program is designed in a way to allow students to complete a stay abroad and still finish the study program within the standard period of study. The study abroad officer at the Faculty will assist you in choosing a university and putting together a course schedule.
The focus of the master’s program is on equipping students with the methodological tools needed to analyze, process, manage, and advise in the field of organizational, staff, and quality development within the educational sector. You acquire knowledge about questions fundamental to the socio-historical, structural, and functional relationship between the education, organization, and profession triad as well as knowledge of organizational and staff development, conversation techniques, and advising in educational organizations. Graduates are familiar with different aspects of management in the educational sector and with communication, cooperation, and supervisory processes within their selected field of action. They have basic knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methods of educational research, their educational policy framework conditions and effects, and the evaluation of educational organizations. This further leads them to have knowledge of theoretical approaches, be well-versed in empirical research methods, and to confidently implement studies in the field of educational science. The study program also places importance on ensuring graduates possess transferable skills, such as gender sensibility, communication and cooperation skills, and the ability to reflect on and analyze a situation as it relates to an individual, group, institutions, organizations, and combined systems.
The master’s program qualifies you for management positions in scientific and professional roles in educational research, in public and private education within the field of school-based and professional education planning, organization, and evaluation, and in operational human resources and education. Graduates typically work as educational advisors in municipal, political, and religious sectors and labor unions, in education management in chambers of commerce, foundations, management of vocational and continuing education centers, adult education centers, international community centers, or as pedagogical managers in childcare institutions.
