Admission requirements

As for every other master’s degree program at TU Berlin, applicants to the master’s program in Aeronautics and Astronautics must possess a first university degree qualifying them for professional work. You can find detailed information in the application and admission regulations/study and examination regulations. The most current version of these regulations applies to applicants.

The Aeronautics and Astronautics master’s program is taught in German. If you are applying with a foreign school-leaving certificate, you must provide proof of German skills at a specific level. This is a prerequisite for admission.

The international nature of aeronautics and astronautics, with its focus on economic, legal, and political issues, means that a good knowledge of English as well as communication and team skills are of fundamental importance. However, these skills are not a condition for admission to studies.

Program structure

There is a proposed course schedule for the degree program. This is a recommendation for how to complete the degree program within the standard period of study of four semesters. It provides an example of which modules to take in which semesters. While this proposed course schedule is ideal on paper, it is not mandatory. It’s simply an example of how to successfully schedule and shape your studies.

You can find the proposed course schedule in the study and examination regulations.

We recommend you commence the program in the winter semester, as starting in the summer semester requires special planning.

Content and modules

The master’s program in Aeronautics and Astronautics consists of modules which group the curriculum content into specific topics and which often include a variety of different study and teaching formats. A current overview of all modules is available in TU Berlin’s module transfer system (MTS). The MTS also provides an overview of which modules are mandatory for your degree program and which are elective. Detailed module descriptions provide information about the content, learning objectives, participation requirements, workload, types of assessment, and much more. The module catalogue is based on the study and examination regulations. The latest version applies to applicants.

Internships

A six-week non-university technical internship is a mandatory component of the program. The internship should focus on overseeing an entire project or offer the opportunity to participate in a project. All further details relating to internships can be found in the internship regulations.

Stays abroad

You can generally complete parts of the program abroad, either in the form of semesters abroad or internships. General information regarding stays abroad can be obtained from the International Office (studying abroad) and from the Career Service (internships abroad).

Acquired skills

As a graduate of the master’s program in Aeronautics and Astronautics you have an advanced knowledge of the field of aerospace as well as an understanding of the general issues involved. You also have the capacity to scientifically and methodologically develop the knowledge you have acquired. The areas of the curriculum focusing on economics and social sciences enable you to assume social responsibility by providing you with the capacity to identify macroeconomic and social contexts for issues which do not relate purely to engineering as well as to gain an awareness of sustainable development. Drawing upon knowledge from other fields, you are able to apply specialized problem-solving skills, leading to new findings and developments. You are also familiar with and able to apply the methods of scientific problem management, thus enabling you to effectively analyze and work on new approaches to problems, including in fields outside aeronautics.

After your studies

There are many career opportunities for graduates of the Aeronautics and Astronautics program. These include management positions in industry and science. Other typical examples of career opportunities include:

  • The design, development, production and operation of aeronautic craft and systems
  • Application-based basic research
  • The assessment and integration of new technologies
  • The planning, development, and management of complex networked aerospace systems
  • The planning, implementation, and operation of air transport systems and their infrastructures
  • Developing guidelines for the implementation, operation, and monitoring of aerospace systems and their infrastructures
  • Examining the safety and environmental compatibility of aerospace systems and their infrastructures

Successfully completing the master’s program also qualifies you for a doctorate and the opportunity to pursue an academic career.
