Re-registration

To continue your studies at the TU Berlin, you must re-register independently. Re-registration is therefore confirmation to the university administration that you will continue studying in the coming semester.

You can view all relevant information regarding your personal re-registration in tuPORT.

You can check in your personal tuPORT under "Immatrikulation und Rückmeldung" to see if your re-registration has been successfully completed. You can then download your enrollment certificate via tuPORT.

ATTENTION: For the summer semester 2024 the Deutschlandsemesterticket will be introduced. We would like to answer a few questions here.

Re-registration when TU Berlin is your primary university

You are required to re-register within the re-registration deadline before the start of each new semester if you wish to continue to study at TU Berlin.

You can view all relevant information regarding your personal re-registration in tuPORT.

  • Your personal semester fees and contributions (only payable by transfer)
  • Your personal reference for the transfer of fees (it is essential that you provide this, new reference per semester)
  • Details of any missing documents which you still need to upload to re-register

Note for students of bachelor’s programs with teacher training option with the secondary subject at another university: The enrolment certificate in the secondary subject in the previous semester must be uploaded for each re-registration. For re-registration at the TU Berlin in the summer semester, you therefore need the certificate of enrolment from the current winter semester of the university at which you are enrolled in your secondary subject. And for re-registration at the TU in the winter semester, you need the enrollment certificate from the current summer semester of the university at which you are enrolled in your secondary subject.

Please always check after the semester change whether your re-registration was successful. Please also make sure that all conditions for re-registration have been met in tuPORT. The transfer of the semester fees does not automatically lead to successful re-registration if, for example, a mandatory document required for re-registration or also the proof of your degree - Master’s enrollment under reserve of revocation - is missing.

Re-registration for students with multiple enrollment at TU Berlin while enrolled at another university in Berlin or Brandenburg as your primary university

I am enrolled at another university in Berlin/Brandenburg as my primary university and I am a TU Berlin student with multiple enrollment and would like to re-register.

You can view all relevant information regarding your personal re-registration in tuPORT:

  • Please upload an Enrollment Certification from your first university via tuPORT by the deadline of 01.10 or 01.04 (start of the semester).
  • The certificate must contain the following information: degree program, intended degree, number of total semesters at the university, and number of degree semesters.
  • If necessary, any other documents required for the re-registration which you have to upload in tuPORT

Please always check after the semester change whether your re-registration was successful. Please also make sure that all conditions for re-registration have been met in tuPORT.

Re-registration deadline and notification of re-registration

You need to re-register for the following semester by the end of the re-registration deadline. Please ensure that you register in full and by the deadline provided. With regard to the semester fees and contributions it means, that they have to be booked on the TU Berlin bank account until the end of the re-registration deadline. To initiate the transfer to our bank account on the last day of re-registration deadline is not sufficient. Please consider the respective bank terms.

A re-registration for the next semester after the deadline is only possible until the last day of the semester in which you are still registered. Note that you have to have already payed the late fee. Here, too, the date of receipt of the payment on the TU Berlin account applies, not the date of the transfer.

The current re-registration deadlines can be found here.

You will receive your notification of re-registration in good time to your TU email address. Not receiving the notification to re-register does not excuse you from the obligation to re-register as required. We recommend you regularly check your inbox for any new emails and ensure that your inbox has sufficient capacity. If you have previously experienced problems receiving emails, please contact IT support at ZECM.

Notes on the payment of the re-registration fee

  • Which account do I need to transfer the re-registration fees to?
Bank details can be viewed in tuPORT in the app "Zahlungsübersicht” (overview of payments). Please transfer the semester fee to the bank accounted provided there only. It is NOT possible to pay the semester fee in cash to the University Cashier. And it is NOT possible to pay the semester fee in installments.

  • Which reference for the transfer of fees should i provide?
Please provide the reference stated in the app "My Account Balance". This consists of a code for the semester and your TUB ID (your matriculation number). Your money can only be booked and assigned to your TUB-ID if you provide this reference. Failure to provide the reference may lead to a delay in your re-registration.
  • Can I have refundable amounts applied to my re-registration fee?
Refundable amounts will NOT be offset against semester amounts due. Please always transfer the semester amount required for the respective semester in full. Otherwise, re-registration is not possible! You can find the semester amount for the current re-registration semester in the app "My Account Balance" in your tuPORT.

  • Paying the semester fee from abroad
If you are transferring your semester fee from abroad, please be aware that some banks charge additional fees for international transfers and that these are deducted from the amount transferred. To re-register, however, the required sum must be deposited in full into TU Berlin’s account . We therefore advise you to check fees with your bank in advance.

Late or no re-registration

  • Late re-registration
If you fail to re-register by the deadline, a late fee of EUR 19.94 is due for re-registration completed by 31 March for the following summer semester and by 30 September for the following winter semester. Please check the app "Registration and Re-registration" in tuPORT and regard the data stated in the app "My Account Balance" for your payment. Failure to re-register by the end of the semester will result in termination of your enrollment ex officio.

  • No re-registration
If you do not re-register or do not transfer the re-registration fee in full or too late or / and do not upload a requiered document, your enrollment will be terminated ex officio. You will be informed of this via email to your TU email address and via tuPORT. Your TUB account and email address remain active only for a short time.

Multiple enrollment - Change of student status

What is multiple enrollment?

  • Under certain conditions, it may be possible to enroll at TU Berlin while you are also enrolled at another university in Berlin or Brandenburg as your primary university.
  • Students with multiple enrollment pay semester fees and exercise their membership rights at their primary university.

How can I change my student status?

I am current a TU Berlin student with multiple enrollment and would like to change my status to a student who primarily attend the TU Berlin:

  • If you are current a TU Berlin student with multiple enrollment and would like to change your student status, you must inform us by email. Please request the change of your student status in due time BEFORE your re-registration so that the correct re-registration conditions are displayed in tuPORT.
  • We will then change your student status and make TU Berlin as your primary university. This means that you must transfer the semester fee to the TU Berlin’s bank account and upload any documents for re-registration to tuPORT.
  • You can view all relevant information regarding your personal re-registration in tuPORT.
  • ATTENTION: There will be no semester ticket for students of the TU Berlin for winter semester 2023/2024.

I am current a student who primarily attend the TU Berlin and I would like to change my status to a TU Berlin student with multiple enrollment:

  • If you are current a student who primarily attend the TU Berlin and would like to change your status, you must inform us by email. Please request the change of your student status in due time BEFORE your re-registration so that the correct re-registration conditions are displayed in tuPORT.
  • We will then change your student status. This will also change the relevant information regarding your personal re-registration in tuPORT.
  • You will not be required to pay the semester fee. However, you must upload the enrollment certificate of your primary university for the current semester from your primary university. This must include the following details: degree program, intended degree, total number of semesters at the university, and total number of degree semesters.

Re-registration for students with a scholarship

International students receiving a scholarship that is mainly or fully financed from public federal or state funds are exempt from paying the 50-euro administration fee included in the semester fee for the duration of the scholarship pursuant to § 2 (7) BerlHG. Once your scholarship ends, the system will automatically charge you the full semester fee.

If your scholarship is renewed or if you enrolled before submitting proof of your scholarship, please inform the relevant bachelor’s or master’s team immediately by email. You must also submit your scholarship award letter in tuPORT in the app “Upload documents” as the document type “sonstiges/other”. Otherwise, we are unable to waive the administration fee and you will be requested to pay the semester fee in full.

Please note that proof of your scholarship can only be considered for current and future semesters. Administration fees for past semesters for which you did not submit proof of scholarship will not be reimbursed. Only evidence of scholarships with a duration beyond half of the semester will be accepted.

As a rule, we can only accept proof from German scholarship providers.
The Deutschlandstipendium is not mainly or fully financed from public state or federal funds. Beginning winter semester 2023/24, Deutschlandstipendium recipients will be required to pay the full administrative fee.

Further information

Official registration

As a student of a Berlin university, your primary residence must be located within the university’s catchment area. Pursuant to Section 10 (1) sentence 2 of the Act on the Admission to Higher Education Institutions in the State of Berlin to Degree Programs with Restricted Admission, the catchment area is the federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg. In accordance with the Federal Registration Act in its currently valid version, you are therefore required to register your residence with the authorities in the university's catchment area.

Pursuant to Section 10 (6) no. 1a of the Berlin State Higher Education Act in its currently valid version, you must submit proof of your personal ID with a valid Berlin or Brandenburg address or the respective residence registration certificate, should you not have already done so at the time of enrollment. Alternatively, you can enter your currently registered Berlin or Brandenburg address in tuPORT by changing your personal data in the portal.

We are obliged to inform you that violations of the obligation to register can be penalized with a fine according to the Federal Registration Act.

Visiting students and doctoral students are exempt from this regulation. Students whose study program does not require them to live in the catchment area for the duration of their studies (such as extraoccupational master’s studies) are likewise exempt.

Hardship case

You can apply for a subsidy if you can provide evidence of circumstances which make it very difficult for you to pay the Semesterticket fee. You can find further details on the web pages of AStA.

Receipt of fees for the tax office

You can find a receipt for the payment (Beitragsquittung) of semester contributions and fees in tuPORT via "Bescheide und Bescheinigungen".

This receipt (Beitragsquittung) is available from the summer semester 2020 (SS 2019/2020). Earlier semesters must be verified with your own bank statements.

As proof of payment of the semester fee, the tax office accepts your enrollment certificate and a copy of your bank statement.
