Recognition of Earned Credits

Recognition of earned credits when applying

If you have already completed periods of study and obtained credits at Technische Universität Berlin or another university and would like to or are required to apply for a higher degree semester at TU Berlin on the basis of credit points obtained, then you must apply to the relevant examination board for assessment of your credits and, if required, assignment to a degree semester.

Recognition of credits obtained at universities is only by application. Credits will be recognized if they are for modules which demonstrate little or no difference to the module to be studied at TU Berlin. You should submit your application for recognition of credits as well as all proofs required to the examination board responsible for your degree program. The application board will then assess your application and decide whether to assign you to a higher degree semester for the program you wish to study. You need to submit this decision from the examination board with your application or application for enrollment.

Please submit your application for recognition of credits to the examination board well in advance of the deadlines for application and enrollment as it can take some time to process this.

You can find further information regarding the recognition of credits when applying for a higher degree semester on the pages Applying and Enrolling for a Bachelor´s Program or Applying and Enrolling for a Master´s Program.

Please note, however, that the University does not provide translations of certificates. If you have completed your doctorate, you can obtain a certificate of recognition for a PhD or doctorate.

Recognition of professional qualifications

The recognition of professional qualifications and other non-university qualifications is by application only. Qualifications will be recognized (and credited) if they demonstrate equivalence to the module to be studied at TU Berlin. Professional qualifications can provide up to a maximum of 50% of the credit points required for a degree program. You should submit your application for recognition of credits (part B) as well as all proofs required to the examination board responsible for your degree program. The examination board will forward your application to your exam team, informing them of its decision.

You should submit you application within two semesters of commencing your studies. Recognition of credits is only possible if you have not yet commenced the examination procedure for the respective module.
