What is a first degree program?
You apply for a first degree if you
- do not already have a degree from a university in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway
- already have a degree from a university in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway and would like to apply for a degree program with free admission (no NC)
Selection process and notification
ATTENTION: There is NO conditional or provisional admission at TU Berlin! Only a complete application in due time and form will be considered.
Selection process in the 1st degree semester of a degree program with restricted admission (with NC):
- From the total number of study places at TU Berlin, 8% are withheld for the admission of nationals of other foreign countries and stateless persons with foreign educational certificates. Within this preliminary quota "International", therefore, only applications from application group C will be considered.
- A ranking list will be formed, and the selection will be based only on the average grade. The waiting period has NO affect on the selection.
- In the main process, 50% of the study places will be offered to graduates of the Studienkolleg of the TU Berlin. Graduates of the Studienkolleg in are:
- Persons who are enrolled at TU Berlin and have currently passed the "Feststellungsprüfung" at the Studienkolleg of the TU Berlin.
- Persons who are enrolled at TU Berlin and have currently passed the "Einzelfachprüfung Deutsch" at level DSH-2 or DSH-3 at the precourse (Propädeutikum) of the Studienkolleg of TU Berlin.
- Persons who have applied for the external "Feststellungsprüfung" or "Ergänzungsprüfung" via uni-assist for TU Berlin in the pre-semester in due time and form and have passed it in the current semester at the Studienkolleg of TU Berlin.
- PLEASE NOTE: If you have completed the Studienkolleg/Propädeutikum in a winter semester and your desired course of study is not offered in the summer semester for the 1st degree semester, then you will be considered as a "Studienkolleg“ graduate when applying for the following winter semester. The prerequisite, however, is that you have not applied at TU Berlin for the summer semester.
- The selection cut-off criteria within the preliminary quota "International" for the last two winter semesters can be found here (currently only in German).
- The selection process begins around mid-August each year for a winter semester or mid-February each year for a summer semester.
- If we are able to offer you a study place, you will receive an e-mail from the Undergraduate Admission Team of TU Berlin. You must then inform us by the deadline stated in this email whether you would like to accept the study place. As soon as we have received your notice of acceptance, we will send two emails to create your personal TUB account (tuPORT).
- The following apps will then be available at your tuPORT:
- "Notices and certificates": There you will find your letter of acceptance, which you can save and print out yourself. The letter of acceptance will only be available as a download at this app. It will not be sent to you by e-mail or postal mail!
- "Registration and Re-registration requirements": There you will find an overview of all documents you need to upload for the enrollment.
- "My account balance": There you will find the amount of the semester to be paid, the reason for payment and the bank details of TU Berlin.
- If we are NOT able to offer you a study place, you will receive a rejection for capacity reasons by e-mail at the earliest from mid-August each year for a winter semester or mid-February each year for a summer semester. You will receive the rejection only by e-mail without a PDF attachment. There will be no postal delivery.
- In the event that study places have not been allocated yet after the completion of the admission procedure, these study places will be allocated using a clearing procedure, which will take place around September each year for a winter semester and March each year for a summer semester. Participation is only online via hochschulstart.de.
- It is in your interest to ensure that you have access to the contact addresses provided (personal/TU email) during the entire process. You are responsible for any errors or missed deadlines caused by incorrect information. Please also check your spam folder!
Admission procedure in the 1st semester of an open admission program (without NC):
- The admission procedure starts at the earliest in mid-June each year for a winter semester or in mid-December each year for a summer semester. The timing depends on the electronic submission of your application from uni-assist to TU Berlin.
- If you have applied in due time and form, you will receive two emails from TU Berlin to create your personal TUB account (tuPORT).

Please note: Re-registration at TU Berlin
If you were previously enrolled in the same degree program with the same study and examination regulations at TU Berlin, you are a re-registrant.
When re-registering, you can only apply for the semester you were placed in by the TU Berlin examination board ("Fachsemestereinstufung"). The semester must fall within the standard period of study for your degree program AND be offered the semester you are applying (i.e. winter or summer semester). You must also submit a certificate of good academic standing from the TU Berlin Examination Office, confirming you still have the right to take examinations in the requested degree program. Please note that it is not possible to be placed back in the first degree semester!
