Kai Grunert received his Master’s degree in Computer Engineering at the Technische Universität Berlin in May 2014. During his studies, he worked at Toll Collect GmbH as a software engineer and architect. He was responsible for creating an automation system for test cases to verify the functionality of On-Board Units. Prior to that, he finished the integrated degree program Communication Systems at the Beuth Hochschule für Technik Berlin. In the practical phases he developed access control systems for Idencom GmbH.
In December 2014, he joined the Telekom Innovation Laboratories as a research scientist in Prof. Axel Küpper’s group Service-centric Networking. Until 2020, he supported the teaching for the lectures Business Processes and IT systems as well as Web Technologies. In 2018, he started his own research project PROCEED where he and his teams created a decentralized Business Process Management System with an engine for executing BPMN-based processes in a distributed fashion. The project is available open source on Gitlab and is still under active development. Currently, Mr. Grunert works on a project for the Werner von Siemens Campus where he investigates the usage of a process system for Industrie 4.0.
