Professor Dr. Ulf Schrader was unanimously nominated for the office of vice president by the Extended Academic Senate on 12 May 2021 on the recommendation of the president. The position has become vacant following the appointment of the current incumbent, Professor Angela Ittel, as president of TU Braunschweig. Professor Ittel, who is responsible for strategic development, junior scholars, and teacher education, will leave TU Berlin in summer 2021. The Extended Academic Senate meets on 9 June 2021 to vote on the new appointment.
Professor Schrader has led the Chair of Economic Education and Sustainable Consumption at TU Berlin since 2008 and has been director of the School of Education at TU Berlin (SETUB) since 2016. In winter semester 2017/18, he was visiting scholar at the George Perkins Marsh Institute at Clark University in Worcester, USA.
Ulf Schrader studied economics, politology and sociology in Göttingen, Dublin and Hanover and holds the degree titles Diplom-Ökonom and Master of Arts. He obtained his doctorate and habilitation at the Institut für Marketing und Konsum at Leibniz Universität Hannover.
In addition to his teaching work, Schrader has led a number of transdisciplinary research projects in the areas of sustainable consumption, corporate social responsibility, consumer education, and vocational orientation. He is a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Consumer Policy and the journal Sustainability: Science, Practice and Policy as well as deputy chair of the Gesellschaft für Arbeit, Technik und Wirtschaft im Unterricht. He has served as a member of the scientific advisory board of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the innovation advisory board of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development as well as co-chair of the Co-operation Council for Teacher Education of the State of Berlin.
