Professor Dr. Volker Markl ofTU Berlin's Institute of Software Engineering and Theoretical Computer Science has been named a full member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BBAW). He is one of seven outstanding researchers named to the academy on 26 November 2021. The BBAW elects its members from all over Germany and from abroad. Members are chosen on the basis of outstanding scientific achievements.
Volker Markl is head of the Database Systems and Information Management Group (DIMA) at Technische Universität Berlin. He is both chief scientist and head of the Intelligent Analytics for Massive Data Research Department at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and is director of the Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Learning and Data (BIFOLD), which was founded through the merger of the Berlin Big Data Center (BBDC) and the Berlin Center for Machine Learning (BZML).
BIFOLD is one of the national competence centers for artificial intelligence. It aims to strengthen the integration of scalable data management and machine learning Volker Markl is an expert in database systems and conducts research at the intersection of distribution systems, scalable data processing, text mining, network technology, machine learning, as well as applications in the fields of health, logistics, industry 4.0, and information marketplaces.
