WULCA - Water use in life cycle assessment

The WULCA working group of the UNEP / SETAC Life Cycle Initiative consists of representatives from science, industry (Unilever, Nestle, Veolia, etc.) and public institutions. The aim is to provide Water Footprint users from industry and science with guidelines on how water use and its consequences can be measured, assessed and compared. The following objectives are pursued:

  • Phase 1: Development of a general evaluation framework for water use in life cycle assessments at the inventory and impact assessment level
  • Phase 2: Criteria-based comparison of water footprint methods
  • Phase 3: Quantitative comparison of impact assessment methods
  • Phase 4: Development of a consensus-impact assessment model

Project duration: 2009 - now
