Methodical sustainability assessment of machine components in the development process

Sustainability in product development means harmonizing economic, ecological and social product requirements. However, it is difficult to grasp the complex relationships between product alternatives and their effects on the entire product life cycle. This research project asks "How can products and processes be analyzed with regard to sustainability dimensions and how can an integrated method of sustainability assessment be derived?", using an example product (alternator).

The research into an analysis method for assessing the sustainability of product alternatives during design based on a concrete example serves to enable a larger research program for developing methodological approaches. The main goals of this project consist in the exemplary testing of ecological, economic and social production-related sustainability criteria as well as integrating them into an analysis method that is consistent for an example product and is both scientifically robust and applicable.
