Curriculum Vitae

Since June 1, 1997, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Markus Hecht has been Head of the Department of Rail Vehicles at the Institute of Land and Sea Transport at the Technical University of Berlin.

He received his diploma in mechanical engineering in 1982 from the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen, Germany. He worked as a research associate and assistant at the Chair and Institute of Mechanical Handling and Rail Vehicles at RWTH Aachen University (1982-1987).

In 1988, he received his doctorate with Prof. Frederich on the topic of track position measurement.

From 1988 to 1997, he worked at Schweizerische Lokomotiv- und Maschinenfabrik AG (SLM), Winterthur, most recently as head of metrology and deputy head of engineering and development at SLM.

In addition to his teaching and research activities, Prof. Hecht is a member of various university committees: Institute Council, Examination Board for Transportation Studies, and occasional appointment committees.  He is deputy head of the research network "Quiet Traffic", editor of the journal ZEV-Rail Glasers Annalen and member of the Railway Engineering Advisory Board. He is a member of the EU expert team EURNEX. In 2002 he was appointed Adjunct Professor at Tongji University Shanghai.
