Quality and Usability

News-Polygraph

Deliberately placed misinformation and media manipulation have become a widespread phenomenon, especially in social media. They are increasingly realistic and credible and are used to intentionally mislead in almost all socially relevant areas. The RUBIN alliance NEWS-POLYGRAPH strengthens the media industry by aiming to simplify the verification processes of media content using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Project description

The goal of the NEWS-POLYGRAPH alliance is to develop suitable solutions for the media industry for the early detection of fake content or false information. For this purpose, an interactive platform will be developed to support the different verification tasks of journalists. For this purpose, AI tools will be developed to examine texts, images, audio files and videos for different features that indicate disinformation in order to simplify the work of journalists. Transparency criteria, explainability of AI tools, and prevention of bias will play an important role in making AI tools reliable and understandable. In addition, processes will be developed to integrate crowdworkers into the false news detection process, who can analyze media content in addition to the AI tools.

Overall, an AI-based platform is being developed to help journalists and media professionals identify misinformation in an intuitive, transparent, and, most importantly, time-saving manner.

Partner:
The NEWS-POLYGRAPH alliance consists of a total of ten partners from industry and academia. The entrepreneurial orientation of the alliance is supported by five companies, Crowdee, delphai, neurocat, transfermedia and Ubermetrics. In conjunction with regional partners from the application area, Deutsche Welle and Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg, the alliance has user partners where the AI tools and platform can be tested and integrated into everyday journalistic work. The companies and users are supported by the science partners DFKI, TU Berlin and Fraunhofer IDMT.
