Faculty VI - Planning Building Environment

Degree Program Representatives and Committees

The universities in Berlin manage their affairs on the principle of academic self-governance. Self-governance is the right of the university to take decisions independent of the state and for which the university itself is responsible, including in areas such as teaching, studies, research, university examinations, doctorates and Habilitations, professorial appointments, as well as the advancement of junior scholars.

The central bodies of this self-governance at TU Berlin are the Board of Trustees, and the (Extended) Academic Senate as well as the faculty boards and their committees and representatives.

Rules for the composition of these governing bodies and their responsibilities are laid out in the Berlin Higher Education Act (BerlHG), the TU Berlin Constitution, the General Study and Examination Regulations (AllgStuPO), and the University’s Quality Management Regulations.

Committee members and other representatives from among the different status groups are appointed by the Faculty Board. The term of office for faculty-internal representatives and committees is based on the Faculty Board’s term of office. The current term ends 31.03.2024.

Education Committee

The Education Committee is an advisory committee of the Faculty Board. Students comprise half of the members and hold half of the votes. The Education Committee is responsible for issuing opinions and drafting recommendations regarding teaching and studies in the faculty. In Faculty VI, the Education Committee forms subject committees which are dedicated to the specific issues of the individual degree programs.

Examination Boards

The examination boards are responsible for organizing all examinations. They are also responsible for recognizing previous periods of study, examinations, and credits; providing a list of examiners; and taking decisions regarding suitable examination conditions for students with long-term or permanent physical disabilities. In particular, the examination board ensures that the provisions of the General Study and Examination Regulations of TU Berlin (AllgStuPO) and the provisions of the Study and Examination Regulations for the respective degree program are observed.

The university professors have the majority of votes in the examination boards; the chairperson is elected from among them.

Further information and all relevant documents can be found on the website for the examination boards.
