Plant Ecology

Campus Steglitz

The Department of Plant Ecology is located together with the Departments of Climatology and Animal Ecology on the Steglitz Campus. The garden is used for teaching and research and is protected as a garden monument.

Access to the building is not barrier-free. If you have any questions about access, please contact the secretary's office.

Garden for teaching and research

The heritage protected garden offers unique opportunities for urban ecology research in the heart of Berlin. We also use the garden as part of teaching events to deepen knowledge gained in lectures in the field.

The library contains literature on ecology, botany, conservation, animal ecology, and biodiversity research, some of which dates back to the 18th/19th centuries and is updated through ongoing acquisitions.

Laboratories and Collections

Laboratories and climatic chambers for ecological research are available on the Steglitz campus. Furthermore, the department has a zoological collection with a focus on invertebrates (Arachnida, Insecta).

Germany's first Institute of Ecology was established on the Steglitz campus in 1973 together with the Institutes of Soil Science and Ornamental Horticulture. Since that time, ecological research and teaching at the TU Berlin has been closely linked to this location.
