Digital value chain for pine-based timber construction in Berlin-Brandenburg

The generally steadily growing consumption of resources is reflected in particular in the construction industry in connection with the classic building material concrete. The massively environmentally harmful construction method with concrete is also cumbersome and time-consuming. The alternative of using rapidly renewable pine wood as a building material is therefore the focus of the project. To follow up on previous efforts to digitize the industry, the project will also research which digital technologies available to us are suitable for further digitizing value creation in the construction industry. A digital value chain also creates an information basis for the end-to-end evaluation of ecological and economic factors, which should help to establish material cycles.

The project is being carried out together with the Institute for Urban Design and Sustainable Urban Development CHORA conscious city, as well as the Fraunhofer Institutes for Production Systems and Design Technology (IPK) and for Holzforschung, Wilhelm-Klauditz-Institut (WKI) and is coordinated at the Department of Sustainable Enterprise Development. The application-oriented, interdisciplinary project is also accompanied by a large number of industrial partners.
