Doors open again! Parts of the mathematics and chemistry buildings accessible again following closures due to water damage

Mathematics Building (MA)

The west and central section of the Mathematics Building opened again on 9 October 2023 for TU staff for regular use during standard opening hours (6 – 22:00).

During daylight hours in the winter half of the year, this area is also open again for students between 8:00 and 16:00. Lectures and seminars can be held during these hours.

This refers to all lecture halls and seminar rooms in the MA Building, lecture hall HE 101 and the UNIX Pool. Until the end of October, the Mathematics Library will continue to be housed in Z Building with extended opening hours (Mon-Fri 9-21:00, Sat 10-18:00).

Please note: The east wing of the Mathematics Building remains closed for all use. No further use is foreseeable in the long term.

The east stairwell cannot be used after dark (from 16:00); the escape routes via the west stairwell (990TB) and, in the event of smoke in the west stairwell, the secondary escape routes in the central section of the MA Building (stairwells 990TC and 990TD as well as 990TE on the 5th floor (accessible via the roof) must be used.

During daylight hours, all stairwells can be used without restrictions as escape and rescue routes.

The next fire drill will take place on 9 November 2023. Due to the special situation in the MA Building, this is primarily intended for staff working there, including student assistants. There are still places available. Please register at:

Chemistry Building (C)

Following an inspection conducted by a specialist company working together with an expert for electrical engineering, practical lab C023 reopened for use on 9 October 2023.

Practical labs C116 and C218 are currently still being assessed and cannot be used at this time.

Students and staff are requested to have their student or staff ID with them when using the buildings. Instructions from security staff must be followed at all times.
