UNIPRENEURS, the initiative to strengthen spin-offs from universities in Germany, awards the highest honor for the promotion of entrepreneurship in higher education and research with 700 nominations from founders. The initiative is under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection.
The awards ceremony for 20 professors nationwide took place in Berlin on September 6, 2023. The awards were presented by Federal Minister of Education and Research Bettina Stark-Watzinger and Dr. Anna Christmann, Commissioner for Digital Economy and Startups at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection.
Professor Reinhard Schomäcker has headed the Department of Technical Chemistry in the Institute of Chemistry at TU Berlin for more than 25 years. His research areas are catalysis and reaction engineering for the conversion of renewable and sustainable raw materials in chemical value chains. His current research focuses on the generation and storage of hydrogen, the use of carbon dioxide as a synthesis building block for chemical products and energy carriers, and the upgrading of hydrocarbons from renewable resources and biogas to basic chemicals and polymers. A particular focus of his work is the transfer of research results to industrial applications, especially in the form of intensive support for start-ups. He was the initiator of the incubator laborator INKULAB at the TU Berlin, where more than ten initiatives have already been accompanied to the point of company formation and currently around 15 start-up initiatives are being supported. He is also scientific director and founding member of the Chemical Invention Factory.
