The newly established Centre for Advanced Studies is intended to strengthen research exchange and scientific cooperation between the partner institutions of the Berlin University Alliance and the University of Oxford. Three teams consisting of up to ten researchers from both Berlin and Oxford will be working together in the future in interdisciplinary projects. Their work will focus on the globally relevant topics of the Grand Challenge Initiatives of the Berlin University Alliance. The topics currently addressed are global health and social cohesion. The teams will be provided with up to 300,000 euros funding to finance research, conferences and summer academies.
The research partnership between the University of Oxford and the four partner institutions of the Berlin University Alliance - Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin - was established in 2017. More than 1000 researchers and students have since benefited from this cooperation and taken part in programs run by the partnership.
