Passenger service of the battery-electric multiple unit TALENT 3 in the BEMU project

The battery-electric multiple unit TALENT 3 BEMU has been in passenger service since 24.01.2022. This marks an important milestone in the research project "BEMU: Battery-electric multiple unit for non-electrified or only partially electrified local rail passenger transport routes". In the course of the trial operation, operating data will be collected and evaluated by the TU Berlin.

The train is being tested on weekdays on the Gäubahn between Stuttgart and Horb as an extra rail service during rush hour. Although the Gäubahn is fully electrified, it enables a flexible test programme in daily operation. Among other things, switching between overhead line and battery operation can be tested during the journey. At weekends, the train operates between Gunzenhausen and Pleinfeld in Bavaria and replaces the diesel multiple unit used up to now. The test operation will continue until 1 May 2022.

Here you can find the flyer about the trial operation.
