Global Health

Global Health is concerned with global challenges faced by healthcare systems worldwide. These include the challenges posed by pandemics and global health inequalities, as well as transnational influences of globalization on health, such as digitization, international migration, the effects of climate change, and the influence of transnational corporations. Global Health also includes global goals such as Universal Health Coverage or the reduction of child and maternal mortality as part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Department is a member of the German Alliance for Global Health Research and of the Global Health Hub Germany. Since 2021, the Department is coordinating the DAAD funded German West-African Centre for Global Health and Pandemic Prevention (G-WAC) based at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana. The Department has strong links with the WHO, the International Vaccine Institute (IVI) and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
