Health Care Management

Berlin Myocardial Infarction Registry

The Berlin Myocardial Infarction Registry (BMIR) is a non-profit, charitable organization which collects data on hospital care of patients with acute myocardial infarction since 1998. It is the aim of the Registry to support hospitals as well as other institutions within the public health sector in improving care for patients with myocardial infarction. The BMIR is a joint initiative of a substantial number of Berlin hospitals, the TU-Berlin and the Berlin Chamber of Physicians.

The BMIR can show how evidence based treatment practices are implemented in day to day routine. A nice example is the increase in percutaneous coronary interventions for patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction from 19% in 1999 to 90% in 2010 within the BMIR.
