Courses
Course Overview
Basics of medical biotechnology
In this module, you will gain basic knowledge about important topics in medical biotechnology. How are tissues constructed? How do organs like the intestine work? What are non-classical organs like the immune system, bone marrow, or blood and blood vessels? We talk about clinical aspects, such as the cause of inflammation or how the organism renews itself with the help of stem cells. The module is very interactive and consists of a classroom and an online part.
Basics of Immunology
Applied medical biotechnology
Cell biology
In this lecture you will learn everything about the structure inside a cell. From the basic building blocks such as nucleotides, amino acids, etc. to DNA, RNA and proteins to their interaction in the cell. what are the tasks of the individual cell organelles? How does the cell divide and why does it die?
In the practical course you will learn basic skills for working with human cells in a laboratory within one week.
Specialization in medical biotechnology
Molecular Data Analysis II
In this module, you will delve deep into the analysis of molecular data - how are genes structured, what does it look like in front of them and in between? How do they differ between cells? What factors regulate their expression? A cell is full of countless molecules that interact with each other and form equilibria. In today's world, these networks can only be managed with databases and useful tools. Here you will learn which methodologies are available to generate data and how to analyze them behind the scenes.
Medical biotechnology in the work environment
The seminar Medical BT in the work environment unfortunately had to be cancelled for pandemic reasons in the last 3 years, and can now also not be offered further in the old form. However, we are pleased to announce that we have now been able to define a new event. It is about the event "Berlin Stem Cell Club" , a high class seminar series of the German Stem Cell Network at the TU Berlin. The seminar will take place every first Thursday of the month at 16:15 on the campus in Berlin Wedding (TIB premises) in room TIB 21-C. There are always two lectures on the topic of stem cells and their use in medical research given by high-ranking national and international scientists. Afterwards, there is always the opportunity to have interesting discussions with the speakers as well as with the auditorium on the topic and beyond. This is a first-class opportunity to learn about research topics in Berlin, but also nationally and internationally, and to possibly establish initial contacts.
MedBT Master Thesis Seminar
The event "MedBT Master Thesis Seminar" is part of the "Module Advanced Medical Biotechnology".
Master theses of former TU students will be presented under the following aspects. Students can ask questions to the lecturers.
Content of the thesis
Location (city, country, institute; working group)

Membrane proteins: classification, structure and function
In this lecture, students will gain knowledge of the topology and function of the major classes of membrane proteins. Structures, biochemical properties, regulation and physiological significance of various membrane proteins will be explained. Signal transduction cascades, receptor-ligand interactions and pharmacological properties of these membrane proteins are presented. Lipid-membrane protein interactions and post-translational modifications are covered using selected examples of membrane-intrinsic and transmembrane proteins. The analytical methods shown for the visualization and characterization of membrane proteins extend the spectrum of biochemical working methods.
Advanced Module Biotechnology FG MBT
The module serves as an orientation for the preparation of a master thesis. In a period of 4 weeks, the necessary theoretical requirements for an experimental work are taught. Basic techniques are practiced in the laboratory. The module is ungraded and can be carried out a maximum of twice within the master's program on two different subject areas. The module allows students to decide specifically and consciously on a topic for the master's thesis based on the findings of the four-week activity. The thesis can then also be completed within the scheduled period of 6 months.
