Chair of Aero Engines

The Chair of Aero Engines covers all types of air-breathing jet engines as well as thermal turbomachinery. Functional reliability, economic feasibility and environmental compatibility are the global goals of modern turbomachinery development. This requires detailed knowledge of the relevant fluid mechanical, thermal and design options and methods.

The goal is the application-oriented further development and optimization of turbomachinery, taking into account the design, secondary systems, combustion and the generation of pollutants and noise. This also includes the operational behavior of the entire aero engine system over the entire range of use as well as reliability and safety aspects. Thermal turbomachinery, which covers the entire industrial application range of compressors and turbines, represents a larger scope in this context. The design of the machine is the main focus, including blade profiling to meet the fluid mechanical requirements and important mechanisms of heat transfer and component cooling.
